About Paul
Paul Ralph is an artist returning to full-time creative activity after spending a number of years teaching professionally in a variety of settings in both London and the north of Scotland.
Previous to this he exhibited as a conceptual artist in the 1970’s alongside the likes of Carl Andre and later, in the 80’s studied Performance Art with Jeff Nuttall at the now legendary Leeds Poly’, going on to be selected as a “Northern Young Contemporary” and show in various venues in the north of England, including The Whitworth Gallery, Manchester.
Throughout his career, however, he has continued to explore and develop his drawing and painting and it is, in fact, his work in these areas, that has given him most satisfaction, both creatively and personally ( As a lifelong football “fan” his greatest thrill, as he describes it, was when a premier league player thanked him for a portrait by running across to where he was sitting after scoring and recreating the pose from his painting in front of the stand! “It felt very Ernest Hemmingway and Belmonte!”, he says)
Paul is currently based in the Scottish seaside town of Stonehaven, where he recently presented a successful solo exhibition entitled “Postcards From Home”, showcasing his landscape pictures made both here and abroad.
He is also active in the local community, initiating and developing creative projects guiding local charitable groups which has, so far, resulted in the production of a mural around 40 metres by 15 metres and an ongoing weekly arts group for the town’s Men’s Shed, and is hoping in the near future to start a women’s mindful life drawing class.
